Description

POSITION OBJECTIVES

Under the direct supervision of the Utility Billing Supervisor, performs basic customer service and cashier tasks of routine difficulty relating to collecting fees and maintaining records for customer service accounts. Work is reviewed daily for accuracy, both during the performance of a task and upon completion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Handles first response to customer service inquiries by accessing billing software, creating service orders as requested.
  2. Explains policies and procedures to customers.
  3. Assists customers both in person, telephone and email to resolve account discrepancies.
  4. Takes deposits, opens new accounts and finals existing accounts.
  5. Receives miscellaneous and/or utility payments, posts to customer accounts or general billing; ensures accuracy of cash receipts, reconciliation of assigned drawer and prepares deposit to be submitted to Senior Billing Clerk.
  6. Types, files, and performs other clerical or cashier duties as assigned.
  7. Completes monthly and quarterly department projects.
  8. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information and data from a computer.

EDUCATION, Training and Experience

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency, and a minimum of at least one (1) year of experience involving teller or cashier duties or an equivalent combination of experience and training.  Applicant must be nicotine free.

(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used in general office work.
  • Ability to use modern office equipment.
  • Ability to make computations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to work closely with the general public to coordinate account inquiries.
  • Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the general public.
